  • Found something...

    Pumpkin patch 16

Been trying to find a good pumpkin patch here in the city.  There are no real pumpkin patches, like the ones we used to go to and pick our own right off the vine.  The one we went to last year was in the parking lot of a church, which didn't really give it the authentic feel.  This year some friends told me about one a bit west of town.  Still not a farm patch, but it was on the grass in a field.  I took the boys last week to pick a pumpkin and take some pictures.  They loved it and I'm so glad we found it!

    a YUM pumpkin bread recipe!

     fall 3

I LOVE Fall.  It was my favorite time of year when we lived in KY.  We don't have a typical fall here in South Florida, our weather all winter is sort of like fall, with the exception of the beautiful leaves changing colors.

The Lord sent us some wonderfully COOL weather that started on Saturday night and stayed until midday yesterday.  It felt amazing!  Can't wait for another cool front to blow through.

So that got me in the mood for some FALL!  Decorating, cooking, dressing.

    fall 2

I got out the very few fall decorations that I have.  I have resisted the urge to buy more as everytime I go to the grocery I see the real pumpkins.  Maybe I'll splurg and buy them closer to Thanksgiving!

    fall 1

Ben helped me make a fall garland with these paper leaves - just to add a splash of color.  I miss seeing the real ones, outdoors on the trees.

    fall 4

I found this easy bread recipe.  If you like to bake, you should try it.  It is really good.  I've eaten a whole (mini) loaf myself while I made it this morning.  The recipe made 1 big loaf and 6 mini loaves (or 3 big loaves).  I like to make mini loaves to wrap and give to neighbors, friends, teachers, etc.

    fall 5

My house smelled heavenly all morning!

    PUMPKIN BREAD

3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour  (I substituted 1 cup whole wheat flour and 1/4 cup ground flax)

3 cups of sugar           ~            2 teaspoons baking soda

    1 1/2 teaspoons salt        ~         1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

    1 teaspoons nutmeg

1 cup vegatable oil           ~         2/3 cup water

    4 large eggs              ~           1 (15 oz) can pumpkin

STIR together flour and all remaining ingredients in a large bowl until smooth.  Divide batter among greased and floured loaf pans.

BAKE at 350 degrees for 50 min - 1 hour or until wooden pick inserted into center of each loaf comes out clean.  Cool in pans on wire rack for 10 minutes.  Remove from pans and cool completely.  ENJOY!

  • BLUE

Have a dear friend who was posting some pictures for a contest here and here  .

Ben was out of school today for Yom Kippur (that should tell you a little about where we live), so we took advantage of the day and went to the beach - again.

I had a few very BRIGHT and BLUE shots from our outing today ~ I just LOVE the beach.  It's actually one of the (very few) things that we love about South Florida.  I could go on writing here about learning to be content and trusting God that he has us just where he wants us, but I'm just not there yet.  I am very encouraged by other friends who write about the subject of contentedness (see above link for one) and they say it a lot better than I ever could.  Jesus is still working on me.  I try to see the good in things for now.  I love my husband, I am glad he is my best friend.  I am also so thankful for my children.  It does make me happy that I am home with them and not missing any part of their lives right now.  I do truely try to cherish the moments that I have with them.  I am thankful for my family in Louisiana who lend a listening ear for hours on end, week after week and are truely interested in how we are doing.  I am thankful for good friends here in town, though most of them will be moving away sooner or later.

I guess we all struggle with the whole "grass is greener" thing.  I guess I've just struggled with it more lately than usual.  Oh well, life goes on, and this is my life now.  I'm sure when you see the pictures you'll feel really sorry for me

Living near the beach also makes me happy!  It makes my husband and children happy too.  I guess you could say it is our happy place.

This kid LOVES the ocean ~

We are supposed to be getting some cooler weather soon - it may actually be down in the 80's.

I think we need to start learning Spanish - so, Adios!
